Terms and conditions

  1. All those joining the Membership Scheme between 8–13 June will be entered into the draw to win the collection of science books
  2. One entry will be made per new membership
  3. Books must be collected from Cheltenham Festivals’ offices in Bath Road, Cheltenham within 30 days of the prize notification. Arrangements for the collection must be made by the winner: Cheltenham Festivals are unable to deliver or pay for delivery of the prize.
  4. The winner will be notified by email within 48 hours of the end of the competition. Confirmation must be made by the winner within 48 hours.
  5. No cash alternative will be given. The decision of Cheltenham Festivals is final.

NESTA FameLab 2009 — results of the UK Final

At 4:30 PM 5th June, the 10 NESTA FameLab finalists took to the stage in front of a huge audience and judges Kathy Sykes, Mark Lythgoe, Leanne Klein and Mark Henderson in the Main Arena at the Cheltenham Science Festival. In the two hours that followed, the audience were treated to a range of captivating, fascinating and humorous talks that took them from malaria to autism, hip replacements to pheromones via a spot of quantum physics, and, for the first time in the history of FameLab, a three minute rhyming poem about bacteria and food poisoning! The atmosphere was tense as the judges stepped out to make their decision and the audience votes were counted.

Weather watch competition — predict the weather!

Linking with our weather watch event, in conjunction with the Royal Meteorological Society, we’re running a competition — to predict the weather over the science festival!

There will be prizes for the best single forecast in age groups 5–11, 12–16, 17–21, 22+ as well as for the person who does best, on average, over the 4 days (you must enter at least 2 predictions to be entered for this prize).

Click for further detailed technical instructions on your predictions.

Predictions must be made before 7pm the day before. After this time your prediction for that day will not be entered in the competition.

Winners will be contacted by 6pm on Sunday, 7th June. The BBC weather presenter, Peter Gibbs, will present prizes to the winners at the beginning of Peter’s talk at 6pm on Sunday 7th June. In case of a tie, the winner will be pulled from a hat.
