A S Byatt, J M Coetzee, Adam Foulds, Hilary Mantel, Simon Mawer and Sarah Waters are today, Tuesday 8 September, announced as the short listed authors for the 2009 Man Booker Prize for Fiction.

The shortlist was announced by Chair of Judges James Naughtie at a press conference held at the Man Group plc’s London headquarters.

Of the six short listed authors — Adam Foulds, Hilary Mantel and Sarah Waters are all already confirmed in the Festival programme. The winner will be announced ahead of the Festival on Tuesday 6 October, and we are delighted to host a very special event with the winner in Cheltenham on Friday 9 October. This is a unique opportunity to be amongst the first to congratulate the winner of the prestigious award.

The six books, selected from the Man Booker Prize longlist of 13 are:

• A S Byatt The Children’s Book
• J M Coetzee Summertime
• Adam Foulds The Quickening Maze
• Hilary Mantel Wolf Hall
• Simon Mawer The Glass Room
• Sarah Waters The Little Stranger
